Homemade BBQ Sauce  (Easy and Fun to make )

I know making your own BBQ sauce sound a bit adventurous but I promise it is super easy and doesn’t contain any yucky preservatives or crazy ingredients.  It will keep in the refrigerator for a few weeks and it’s totally worth it.

It’s also fun because you can tweak the ingredients any way you want and come up with your family’s own special sauce.  If you like a more southern style vinager sauce then up the vinager.  If you like a sweeter sauce add more brown sugar or honey.

Here’s what we did.  I usually change it every time I make depending on what ingredients I have in the house.

I start with a small sauce pan on the stove on low and add all ingredients in there stirring occasionally until its thick and bubbly.  It will thicken up nicely and be delicious.

BBQ Sauce

12 oz Organic Tomato Sauce

2/3 cup Organic Ketchup

3 Tbs Maple Syrup (or Honey, Molasses or Agave)

2/3 cup Brown Sugar

2 Tbs Apple Cider Vinegar (or red wine vinegar)

2 Tbs Liquid Smoke  (not necessary if you do not have any on hand)

1 tsp smoked paprika (or regular)

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp chili powder

1 dash cinnamon and ground mustard and chipolte pepper hot sauce to taste.  You can use regular hot sauce if you don’t have chipolte pepper.
